Skip Trapp, 50, of Newburgh, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at his home. He was born January 21, 1971, in Evansville, to Raymond H. and Marian L. (Hopper) Trapp. Skip started playing tennis at six years old when his parents joined an adult beginner class and he wanted to play too. He was an all-state player for Memorial and had Midwest rankings, going on to play tennis at Murray State University and the University of Southern Indiana. He spent 23 years in Chicago as a tennis professional. After moving back to Evansville, Skip became the boys’ tennis coach at Central High School. The next year he became a full-time business teacher at Harrison High School and their head boys’ and girls’ tennis coach. He was very active in building the Harrison/Memorial youth cub tennis team. Trapp taught tennis part-time at the Evansville Tennis Center, at Rolling Hills Country Club in the summer, and was also a highly-regarded tennis official. He officiated the Boys National at Kalamazoo, Michigan, plus the Girls’ National Indoor, National Level 3, Midwest Closed and CITA (Central Indiana Tennis Association) qualifier, as well as Midwest Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 tournaments. Skip was a member of the Indiana State Teachers’ Association, United States Tennis Association, and former member of PTR. Skip loved the time he spent with his family, especially his nieces, nephews, and children. Most recently he enjoyed teaching them the skills of tennis, as well as sharing his passion of playing the game. He enjoyed his time spent teaching and coaching at Harrison. “Go Warriors!” Skip was also an avid Chicago sports fan, cheering for the Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls. Skip is survived by his wife of 14 years, Amy (Schwabero) Trapp; children, Henry Trapp and Lucille “Lucy” Trapp; parents, Raymond H. and Marian L. (Hopper) Trapp; sisters, Kristi (John) Bruch and Tricia (Andrew) Venditti; mother and father-in-law, David and Connie Schwabero; nieces and nephews, Jocelyn Bruch, Ian Bruch, Gavino Venditti, Luca Venditti, Wyatt Schwabero, Everett Schwabero, and Caroline Schwabero; and brother-in-law, Matt (Ashley) Schwabero. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 and funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be live-streamed on the Ziemer Funeral Home and Cremation Services’ Facebook page 20 minutes prior to the start of service time.
