Shirley Rae Haug

October 5, 1934 - December 15, 2021

Shirley Rae Haug, 87, of Newburgh, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born October 5, 1934 in Evansville to the late Joseph and Ruth Rold (Hester) Bassemier. Shirley was a graduate of Memorial High School in 1952 and the St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1955. She served this community as a Registered Nurse until retiring in 1994. Prior to her retirement, she was on the staff of the Evansville Protestant Home for 17 years and also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Regina and the Evansville State Hospital. Shirley was as member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and served on the church’s Bereavement Committee. She and her late husband, Herb, enjoyed traveling and this past year, she resumed her hobby of acrylic paintings. Shirley is survived by her sons and their wives, Dave and Julie, Mike and Debbie, Dan and Jean, Steve and Angela; daughters and their husbands, Linda and Larry Wicker, Denise and Steve Nellis; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert Haug, in August of 2021; and sisters, Carol Bengert and Patti Antey. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 11:00 a.m. to noon, Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon with Father Bernie Etienne officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery.
