Robert D. Williams

December 14, 1931 - January 8, 2022

Robert D. Williams, 90, of Evansville passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born December 14, 1931 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Mildred (Wiley) and Cecil Williams. His family moved to Evansville in 1944. Bob graduated from Central High School where he participated in sports. After his military service in the Indiana National Guard and U.S. Army, he attended Evansville College and Indiana State. He received his BS and MS degrees from Indiana State. He began teaching in northern Indiana and moved back to Evansville and taught in the EVSC system for 30 years until his retirement in 1990. Bob was a past member of Wheatfield Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites and Hadi Shriner. He looked forward to his weekly meetings at the Huddleback and Quarterback clubs. Bob enjoyed watching sports and continued reading and studying military history. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne “Jo” (Deardorff) Williams; daughters, Karen Beltran and Kelly Ralph; sons, James Williams, David Williams and Scott Williams; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Kay Williams. A gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life at 4:00 p.m. at the church with Reverend Alan Scott officiating. Graveside service will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church, 4615 Oak Hill Rd., Evansville, IN 47711 or the Evansville Wartime Museum, 7503 Petersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725.
