Robert E. Ewers

August 31, 1932 - May 13, 2022

Robert E. (Bob) Ewers, 89, of Evansville, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at Deaconess Midtown Campus. He was born on August 31, 1932 in Evansville to the late Emmanuel and Velia (Johnson) Ewers. Bob graduated from Memorial High School in 1950. After graduation, he joined the Plumbers and Steam Fitters local 136 and achieved 70 years of service. Bob was past president of Joint Apprenticeship Committee and was an instructor for local 136 for over 25 years. In 1951, Bob joined the Navy Reserves and was immediately called to service and shipped out to Cory Field in Pensacola, Florida. While stationed there, he met his future wife Virginia (Ginny) McCartney. After service, they settled in Evansville. Bob was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he organized the booster club for sports. Bob enjoyed many things, but most of all he enjoyed hunting, coaching grade school football, baseball and playing golf. Bob is survived by his sons, Rick (Jean) Ewers, Bobby (Terri) Ewers, Eric (Pam) Ewers and daughter, Mary (Rick) Pepper; grandchildren, Christine Pankau, Justin Ewers, Heidi Gibson, Mandy Hawkins, Barbara Moore, Amy Jones, Robert Ewers II, Brooke Mettle, Alex Pepper and Ryan Ewers and Kristina Watson; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Ginny in 1991 and daughter, Carolyn in 2021. The family would like to thank the staff in the 5500 unit at Deaconess Midtown. Per Bob’s request, there will be no visitation and private entombment will be at Saint Joseph Mausoleum. Ziemer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
