August 15, 1945 - March 22, 2022
Mary Lee (Bass) Peak, 76, of Newburgh, passed away March 22, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born August 15, 1945 in Evansville, IN to the late Robert and Dorothy (Grainger) Bass. Mary devoted her life to her family and to her love of teaching children. She graduated from the University of Evansville in 1967 and spent many years teaching elementary education and Head Start in Evansville. She later found her home teaching preschool at St. John Kinder Kountry in Newburgh, where she taught for over 20 years until her retirement in 2018. One of her greatest joys in life was teaching her hundreds of “kids” who she loved as her own. Mary is survived by her husband, Ken Peak, and they would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on May 6. She is also survived by her children, Angela (Jeff) Baker of Newburgh, Eric Peak of Brownsburg, and Kendra (Ryan) Eldridge of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) King, Mallory and Elly Baker of Newburgh, Maranda and Carli Peak of Brownsburg, and Logan, Ian, and Luke Eldridge of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Nolan, Theodore, and Grayson King of Newburgh; sister, Carol (Bill) Osbourne of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved dog, Wendy Jo. Mary maintained lifelong friendships with so many who were as dear to her as family. Some of her favorite times were spent playing bunco, painting ceramics, and shopping. She always found the good in people and situations, and never missed a chance to remind those she loved of how important they are. Mary was a caring, loving soul with a light of positivity that brought joy to the lives of all those around her. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, with Father Dusty Burns officiating. Private burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. To honor Mary’s love of childhood learning, we ask that memorial contributions be made to Warrick Literacy & Education Connections, P.O. Box 845, Newburgh, IN 47629, which brings books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to children living in Warrick County. In addition, donations of new children’s books may be brought to the visitation or Mass for distribution to the charity. Condolences and favorite memories of Mary may be shared online at www.ziemerfuneralhome.com.
