John William Warnsman, age 84 of Huntingburg, Indiana passed away on December 20, 2020 at Memorial Hospital, Jasper, Indiana from complications due to COVID. He was born on December 31, 1935, at Huntingburg, Indiana to John Henry and Lydia (Klosterman) Warnsman. John served in the US Army and, upon his return to Huntingburg, worked as an insurance agent, in the wood furniture business, and for Uebelhor Oil from which he is retired. He belonged to Salem Church where he enjoyed working with young people. He taught Sunday School for 20 plus years, served as a sponsor for the Junior and Senior Youth Fellowship, and held positions on the church’s Board of Christian Education, one being Superintendent. He also worked with a local Boy Scouts of America troop and Little League baseball. John’s love of the outdoors is widely known. As a family, the Warnsmans shared many camping trips and adventures. He carried this love throughout his entire life and, during his retirement, would spend weeks traveling and camping throughout the West, including Alaska and Canada. He enjoyed visiting friends and family along the way. Fishing and cooking outdoors also brought him great joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Snyder) Warnsman; and his very special friend, Jeanette Hoing. Surviving John are two sons, Steve (Karen) Warnsman, Danville, IN, Stu Warnsman, Sunnyvale, CA; one daughter, Natalie (Jason) Wagner, Otsego, MN; four grandchildren, Anna Warnsman, Indianapolis, IN, John Warnsman, Danville, IN, Lydia Wagner, Minneapolis, MN, Madeline Wagner, Aurora, CO; two sisters, Mernie Burden, Las Cruces, NM, Melba Schulte, Indianapolis, IN; numerous nieces and nephews and countless unofficially adopted family members. His wish was to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a future date when friends and family can safely gather in remembrance of the many blessings John brought into this world. Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s name to his favorite causes, The Nature Conservancy and the American Cancer Society.
