John Michael Berry, 41, of Evansville, passed away from natural causes Monday, September 14, 2020 at his home. He was born December 27, 1978 in Evansville to Kathleen and the late John K. Berry, M.D. John was a 1997 graduate of Memorial High School and later earned a Culinary Arts degree from Vincennes University. John was a wonderful and creative chef and loved to bake, grill and smoke homemade meals. He enjoyed spending time playing Frisbee golf, traveling and tinkering with tools and electronics, but he cherished most the time spent with his friends, brothers and family. John will be remembered for his infectious laugh, high social intelligence, quiet confidence and offering his time, love, and assistance to others in need. John is survived by his mother, Kathleen (Harper) Berry; brothers, Adam H. (Theresa) Berry and Alex J. (Jessica) Berry; nieces, Madeline Berry and Harper Berry; uncle, Jeff Berry; aunt, Ann (Melvin) Brewer; close family friend, John Karger; and numerous cousins. John was preceded in death by his father, John K. Berry, M.D., in 2005; uncles, Ronald P. Harper, James D. Harper, Eddie V. Berry, Don M. Berry and Roger L. Berry; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. The Berry family is very grateful for the unprecedented medical care that John received, with special recognition going to Dr. Greg Unfried of Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Dr. Mark Browning at Oncology Hematology Associates, as well as the remarkable and compassionate staff at both Southwestern and OHA. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue. A Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to the current pandemic, masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Dr. John K. Berry’s Friends of Mental Health, 415 Mulberry St., Evansville, IN 47713. The Friends of Mental Health was created by Dr. & Mrs. Berry to educate the public about mental illness and to reduce the stigma associated with it.
