Helen Elizabeth Miller

April 11, 1930 - May 20, 2021

Helen Elizabeth (Powers) Miller, 91, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway. She was born April 11, 1930 in Vincennes, IN, to the late Benjamin and Bertha E. (Ruehrschneck) Powers. Helen attended Christian Fellowship Church. She was an avid golfer carrying an 8 handicap and was Ladies Club Champion for three years in a row at the Lawrenceville Country Club. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her many friends. Helen is survived by her daughters; Jan (Gale) Hiser, Phoenix, AZ, Cindy (John) Schutz, Newburgh, IN, Tyla Thomas, Hemet, CA, Retta White, Rockport, TX and Diane (Todd) Lewis, Carmel, IN. Sisters; Audie Vuich, Crown Pointe, IN, Jenny Baiel, St. John, IN, brothers; Jack Powers, Plymouth, IN, Fred Powers, Vincennes, IN, and Ben Powers, Sun City, AZ. Grandchildren; Ashley Hiser, Jessica Runnels, Emily Essman, Joey Dumes, Steven and Katie Thomas, 5 great grandchildren, and her past beloved pet Pippin. Helen was especially close to Donna Summers, Rick Sills, Randy Puckett, and Bonnie Ziebell and her special friend Freddy Perigo. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert Cook, sisters; Betty Waters and Barbara Polston and brother Randall Powers. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, and visitation will continue Wednesday May 26, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Tim Garrett officiating. Private burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Lawrenceville City Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Evansville Blind Association, 500 N. 2nd Ave., Evansville, IN 47710, Hadi Shrine, 6 Walnut St. Evansville, IN 47708 or Vanderburgh County Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr., Evansville, IN.
