Eugene L. “Gene” Welte, 79, of Newburgh, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born November 30, 1942 in Evansville to the late Leona (Wagner) and Albert A. Welte. Gene graduated from Memorial High School in 1960 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at Alcoa for 40 years. Gene was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh and their Men’s Club. He enjoyed volunteer work in retirement. Gene loved traveling with family, woodworking and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue “Susie” (Wendholt) Welte; daughter, Gina Osburn; son, Eric (Kari) Welte; grandchildren, Ethan Osburn, Jack Osburn, Amelia Osburn, Johnny Welte, Alice Welte; step-grandchildren, Wesley Chamberlain, Gavin Chamberlain and Autumn Chamberlain; siblings, Albert “Bud” Welte, Charles (Patti) Welte, Virgil Welte, Janet Roe and Marjorie Sandleben; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Delbert Welte. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Rd., Newburgh, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Father Henry Kuykendall and Deacon Joe Seibert officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 560 E.
