Chester "Chet" Staples

Chester “Chet” Staples, 83, of Newburgh, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022 at Bell Oaks Place. He was born May 11, 1938 in Evansville to the late Chester I. and Mildred (Dodd) Staples. Chet graduated from Central High School and attended Lockyear Business College, and was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. He worked for Lancaster Insurance Agency, and served on the Board of Directors of the Freedom Festival and Salvation Army. Chet was a member of St. James Catholic Church, and also a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge #464, Hadi Shrine, Scottish Rite and received the 33rd degree in Pittsburgh. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Bertie (Bill) Gerling of Newburgh and Deb (Keith) Schroeder of Chicago; grandchildren, Allison (JP) Engelbrecht, Ashley (Aaron) Hills and John Schroeder (Amy); sisters, Jennie Hill and Joanie (Jack) Phillips; 6 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Kissel) Staples; sister, Bonnie Staples; and brother-in-law, Bryan Hill. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church, 12300 S 50 W, Haubstadt. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Kenneth Betz officiating. Burial will be at St. James Church Cemetery.
