Carolyn Sue Schapker

September 17, 1937 - April 11, 2022

Carolyn Sue Schapker, 84, of Evansville, Indiana passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. Carolyn was born in Evansville, Indiana on Sept 17, 1937, to the late Willie and Kathryn (Wright) Schneider. She was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. She worked for over 30 years at Sears. After retirement, she enjoyed working with her brother Ronnie at his shop Ronnie’s Fruit Stand for over 15 years. Carolyn is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Herman “Jim” Schapker; sisters, Mary Ann Beck (Marlin) and Pamela Pepper (Roger); children, Amy Seiler and Tim Schapker (Vinny Sastri); and extended family, Robynn and Monte Merkel. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Phoebe Merkel and Aidan Merkel. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Kathryn Schneider in 1990; father, Willie Schneider in 1997; brothers, Ronald "Ronnie" Schneider in 2010; Ernest "Ernie" Schneider in 2010; and by her sister, Janet Beck in 2018. Carolyn loved being a member and volunteer at Gilda’s Club (now Cancer Pathways Midwest) since their beginning in 2014. As a 40+ year cancer survivor she mentored and provided support to other people who were living with a cancer diagnosis. She was also an active member of the Sears Retirees Club and Twin Towers. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was an active member of her high school reunion planning committee. She enjoyed spending time with her lifelong high school friends, nicknamed the SASAEN’s (Sugar And Spice And Everything Nice). Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family. She was a natural caregiver, and helped so many people in crisis with advice, emotional and financial support, and even a place to live. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she supported them in school and all their programs and activities. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 16 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Rd. Burial will immediately follow at St Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 15 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, and from 8:30 a.m. until the service at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Pathways Midwest, 5740 Vogel Rd., Evansville, IN 47715.
