Carol A. Schaffstein

November 16, 1943 - January 23, 2022

Carol A. Schaffstein, 78, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born November 16, 1943 in Plainfield, New Jersey to the late Eleanor (Lubtiske) and Alexander VonPichl. Carol graduated from Memorial High School in 1961 and attended Ringling School of Art focusing on interior decorating. She started dating Tom Schaffstein when she was 13 and they were married for 41 ½ years before his death in 2006. Carol and Tom started Truck Clean in 1967 and retired in 2006. She was an active member of Resurrection Catholic Church for over 50 years. Carol enjoyed decorating, bingo, cooking and playing cards with friends. She was an avid lover of animals, raising many cats, dogs and birds. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Ann (Paul) Niemeier and Deborah Carol (Jay) Willis; sons, Alan Lee (Angie) Schaffstein and Brian Edward Schaffstein; granddaughters, Allison Nicole Willis, Courtney Renee Willis and Cheyenne Michelle Niemeier; grandsons, Wade Thomas Niemeier and Colt James Willis; brother, Alex VonPichl; and faithful, furry companion, Dottie. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Schaffstein. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 First Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5301 New Harmony Rd., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Jerry Pratt and Father Ray Brenner officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Catholic Church, Vanderburgh Humane Society or West Side Nut Club Foundation. For my children and grandchildren, “Thank you God for letting me have them, thank you God for letting me love them.”
