Ann Louise (DeJean) Scheitlin, 94, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, surrounded by family at Primrose Retirement Community in Newburgh, Indiana. Born in Vincennes, Indiana, on May 26, 1927, Ann was the tenth child of William and Marie (Blome) DeJean. After moving to Evansville, Indiana, in 1929, she attended Assumption Catholic Grade School. Ann attended Reitz Memorial High School, served as the girls’ class president and graduated in 1945. Following high school, she worked at Carter Mortgage Company. Ann married Thomas Scheitlin on February 5, 1949, and together they had eight children over the next 20 years. The Scheitlin family started out in Evansville, Indiana, lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Wellesley, Massachusetts, moving back to Evansville to stay in 1971. Ann was a devoted wife and homemaker, a loving mother, caring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an involved community member, active in the Holy Rosary PTA, President of the New Neighbor’s League in St. Paul, and President of Newcomers upon her return to Indiana. In Evansville, she was a long-time member of St. Benedict Cathedral, serving as Eucharistic minister, bereavement team member, church greeter, and part of weekly adoration. Involved in the Reitz Memorial High School Patron’s Club and a charter member of Memorial’s Friends and Alumni, she also helped organize reunions for her Class of 1945. Avid golfers, dancers, and bridge players, Ann and her husband, Tom, spent a lot of time on the greens at Oak Meadow Golf Club and jitterbugging with the Coterie and Friday Night Dance Club. She loved crossword puzzles, music, bowling, collecting angels, and, because of Tom, cheering for Notre Dame. Ann loved to meet people and enjoyed listening to their stories. She will be remembered for the thousands of greeting cards she sent to family members and friends all over the world for birthdays, graduations, sympathy, friendly notes, support, and simply staying connected. Ann is survived by her son Joseph (Laurie) of Plymouth, Minn., their children Kayla (Mitch Gaynor) and Charles (Madison Millard); daughter Linda (Ed) Wendholt of St. Joseph, Mich., their children Monica (Tom) Single, Amy Wendholt (Ruben Farinas), Jim, and Cheryl; daughter Barbara (Doug) Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., their daughters Kyle and Torrey (Eli Edelman); daughter Mary Moss of Baylis, Ill., her children Jason (Megan) Moss, Jaron (Ashley) Moss, Megan (Nelson) Mugarula, and Michelle (Joel) Swai; son William (Kim) of Evansville, Ind.; son Robert (Brenda) of St. Joseph, Mich.; and son David (Deborah) of Fort Wayne, Ind.
