January 28, 1934 - February 14, 2022
Andrea Mary Tepool, 88, of Evansville, IN, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 28, 1934 in Evansville, to the late Edward A. and Mona (Leinenbach) Kiefer. She was baptized at Saint Boniface Catholic Church, and her family lived in many homes throughout her childhood before settling down on the East side. She then attended Saint Benedict Catholic School and Memorial High School, where she was the Editor of the yearbook, graduating in 1951. She met her lifelong love, Donald G. Tepool, Sr., at the She-He-He-She, the diocesan teen club, when she was only 14 and he was 17 years old. Later, Andrea received daily love letters from Don, while he was stationed in Germany, while serving in the U.S. Army. They married at St. Benedict Catholic Church on May 15, 1954. Andrea and Don were founding members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, raising their four children there. Andrea always remarked on how much she loved her Catholic faith. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, prayer chain leader, greeting card committee, and numerous duties at the Summer Social. In 2014, Andrea and Don were awarded the Bruté Award by the Evansville Catholic Diocese for their service to the parish. In high school, Andrea started working for her father’s business, Kiefer Amusements, as his bookkeeper. She then went on to work for Servel, and the Home Finance Company. Andrea then took time to stay home and raise her four children, and after they had grown, went on to work at the University of Evansville as a Secretary in the School of Business. During her time there, she became an avid Aces basketball fan, and continued to attend games with Don and her family after she retired in 1994. Sunday night volleyball and snow-skiing trips were sports Andrea, along with Don, enjoyed with their Holy Spirit group of friends, but not more than watching her eight grandchildren play their school sports. She was their biggest fan! Andrea loved planning trips and traveling, experiencing many adventures around the U.S. and Europe with friends and family. She and Don took their children to Walt Disney World the first summer it opened, returning many times later, with her kids and grandkids. She was thrilled when she walked New York City, at age 80, attending several Broadway shows, including seeing her granddaughter in an off-Broadway play. Music and theater was another joy to Andrea! She attended the Philharmonic, and was especially proud to see her grandchildren perform on stage in all of their recitals and school performances. As time went on, nothing would brighten her day more than seeing the faces of her great grandchildren come through the door for a visit. Most of all, Andrea created the most loving home that anyone was fortunate to be a part of. She loved guiding everyone thru her floral gardens outside her house, treating her grandkids with after-school snacks and games, and hosting the beloved Christmas Dinner celebration every year. Get-togethers for birthdays, sacraments, holidays, and just for fun were the norm for her, building special family traditions. It was also a place that anyone was welcome and taken care of, regardless of time or circumstances. It is very befitting that she left this earth on Valentine’s Day, the day of Love, to reunite with her sweetheart. Her everlasting gift to us is her love for family and friends and her faith in God. Andrea is survived by her children, Donald G. (Cheryl) Tepool, Jr., Cindy Johnson, Beth (Bernie) Becker, and David Tepool; grandchildren, Nathan Tepool, Katie (Brandon) Gibson, Michelle (Mike) Force, Melissa Johnson, Erica Becker, Evan Becker, Noelle Becker, and Nicholas Becker; great-grandchildren, Jack Hyde and Emma Gibson; sister, Ramona (David) Paul, sister-in-law, Suzie Kiefer; and 18 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Andrea was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Tepool, Sr.; her brothers, Edward H. Kiefer and Roger “Podgie” Kiefer; and sister-in-law, Kate Kiefer. Visitation will be from noon to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S.
