John William Boenigk, Ph.D., 94, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at home.

John graduated from Duquesne University and received his Masterís degree in Hospital Pharmacy from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. While attending Purdue University he was drafted into the U.S. Army Medical Corp as a Pharmacist, returning to Purdue University to receive his Ph.D. John taught at the University of Texas in Austin, Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and the University of Pittsburgh. He then went to work at Mead Johnson retiring in 1983 as the Senior Investigator in the Pharmaceutical Product Development Department. John was involved in the Mead Johnson/Bristol-Myers Squibb retirees' monthly meetings. He was a member of Christ the King Church where he served as a Lay Minister and was involved in many activities through the years at the church. He was an avid reader known to everyone at the Evansville Public Library. He especially enjoyed reading westerns, mysteries and anything regarding the Civil War. At no expense, John would help the elderly with their taxes at SWIRCA.

John was preceded in death by his son, Michael Boenigk; brother, Edward Boenigk and sister, Thelma McCormick.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances (Vaughan) Boenigk; sons, Larry Boenigk, John Patrick Boenigk (Lori) all of Evansville and Brian W. Boenigk of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Paula Boenigk; grandchildren, Stacia Warren and Alex Boenigk (Lisa); great grandchild, Mischa Boenigk; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 pm Friday, September 28, 2012 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with a memorial service at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 - 10:00 am Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3010 E. Chandler, Evansville, IN 47714.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the church with Fr. Alex Zenthoefer officiating.

Entombment will be a St. Joseph Mausoleum.
